Workshop aim: To enable individuals, churches and Christian organisations involved in the ministry of pastoral care, to develop their understanding and application of good practice, so that it can be offered safely, effectively and with integrity.
Who is the workshop suitable for?
The workshop is suitable for pastoral carers who regularly offer pastoral care and who may be part of a pastoral care team or initiative. It is also suitable for pastoral team leads and church leaders who wish to understand how pastoral care guidelines can support their organisation’s ministry of pastoral care.
A workshop booklet will be available for all participants, together with ACC’s Guidelines for Good Practice in Pastoral Care.
Workshop objectives
At the end of this workshop, participants will have a clearer understanding of Guidelines for Good Practice in Pastoral Care by considering:
Pastoral carers are having to respond to increasingly complex human issues as multiple stressors affect the health and wellbeing of many in our communities. Offering what is essentially a ministry of love and navigating these complexities can be challenging.
This workshop will look at the benefit of working within a framework for good practice and will include a Biblical understanding of pastoral care, the ethical responsibilities of the carer, the importance of looking after boundaries not least confidentiality, the management of dual relationships and support for the carer.
There will be teaching and some opportunity for discussion as we share our collective wisdom and consider how we might apply our learning.
Note: The workshop will acknowledge the importance of Safeguarding but will assume and advise that safeguarding training is a requirement for pastoral carers and will be the responsibility of churches and organisations to provide.
