Building Blocks in Pastoral Care: Pastoral Training Course Part 2

Do you wish to build upon your existing knowledge and skills in pastoral care? Are you seeking fresh insights to provide effective pastoral care?

This 6-session course is designed as a follow-on training course to ACC’s ‘Foundations in Pastoral Care’. It is best suited to experienced pastoral carers who are actively involved in pastoral care ministry and who routinely encounter a wide range of pastoral care needs.

The course is aimed at pastoral carers who have previously joined us for our ‘Foundations in Pastoral Care’ course (or our previous 10-week Resourcing Pastoral Care Course), as material covered in part 1 will be assumed. If you wish to enrol on this course and have completed alternative pastoral care training, please contact us to explore if this course would be suitable for you.

Each week, the course provides an engaging range of activities such as teaching, group work, discussion, individual reflection and prayer to enable:

  • embedding of theory and practice through real scenarios
  • exploration of the complexities of commonly encountered pastoral situations
  • increased self-awareness and personal spiritual growth

Topics are many and varied which reflect the complexity of pastoral care. They include:

  • advanced listening skills
  • the use of empathy, presence, scripture and prayer
  • pastoral care responses to loss, grief, suffering and their impact on the journey of faith
  • pastoral support during bereavement and mental health challenges
  • spiritual need
  • preparing ourselves for pastoral care
  • attending to our own wellbeing and faith journey
